When it was announced that the beloved Barnes & Noble in my hometown of Bethesda, Maryland, would close and be replaced by an Anthropologie store, the community was devastated—seriously. It may sound silly, but that Barnes & Noble was a true fixture in our little downtown area—it was where teens would wait to get picked up after nights out (my friends and I spent many an evening in middle and early high school waiting for someone's mom or dad after we'd sneakily flipped through Cosmopolitan in the upstairs cafĂ© area) and where families would gather on weekend mornings. But while that Barnes & Noble will always hold a sentimental place in my heart, the home decor enthusiast in me definitely isn't disappointed by the new Anthro and its sister store, Terrain, both of which are now conveniently a short metro ride away from my apartment in D.C.
