Can you imagine life without toilet paper? Just thinking about it makes you feel nervous, right? Some people find talking about toilets quite disgusting, but there are actually many interesting facts about them. Here are some:

What did people use before toilet paper was invented?
Well, what you used for your personal bathroom needs before the invention of toilet paper depended to some degree on your social status and your geographical location.

If you were wealthy, then you might use wool, or a soft – and washable – rag. The Ancient Romans used sponges on sticks and then soaked in water.

If you were not so well off, then the most common thing to do was simply to grab a fistful of grass, leaves or straw to do what needed to be done.

In some parts of the world, going to the toilet always meant just going to the nearest river or stream and letting the current carry the waste away. Any wiping was done just by hand. That is why in India and some parts of the Middle East it is considered offensive to eat or pass food at table with your left hand – because that's the one that you would use in the river.

In many European countries today, the use of toilet paper is considered dirty and unhygienic. In these countries the most common practice is a thorough, soapy wash and rinse afterwards using a 'bidet.' This is a sort of low basin with hot water tap and soap that you sit on and is usually placed next to the toilet for convenience. GDP doesn't usually move markets as clearly as it did today, but today was a bit of an anomaly. First off, we'd been waiting for this revision longer than normal due to the shutdown. Beyond that, it was a fairly sharp revision forecast due not only to the shutdown, but to the other economic uncertainty that crept in during the end of 2018. Finally, it carried asymmetric risk due to widespread expectations for the actual number to come in even farther below the 2.3% forecast. With all of the above in mind, the 2.6% result (accompanied by a 2.0 vs 1.7% reading on the deflator, an important inflation metric) was enough to put bond traders in a defensive mood at the outset. Homeownership is Highest Since 2014

The Census Bureau reported on Thursday that the national homeownership rate rose slightly in the fourth quarter of 2018 to 64.8 percent , up from 64.4 percent in the third quarter and 64.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017. The Census Bureau said that change was not statistically different in either case, but at least it did continue the gradual upward trend in the rate since it hit an all-time low of 62.9 percent in the second quarter of 2016. The headline news however was a 1.2-point year-over-year change in the rate for those 34 to 44 years of age to 61.1 percent, by far the largest gain for any age group. This Apartment Building's Luxury Amenity? Daisy, The Newfoundland

It's one thing to check into a hotel, like at the Hotel Nikko San Francisco, where Buster, the hotel's "Canine Operating Officer" is available 24/7 for an on-demand cuddle.

But to get to live in a rental building with an on-site dog who lives in the lobby during the day? That's a building I want to move into right now.

To that end, meet Daisy the 12-year-old 'House Dog' at NEXT Apartments in Chicago's River North neighborhood. The average bath uses 36 gallons to fill a tub, while the average shower (without the water-saving device) uses five gallons of water per minute, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

These included the Fed Chair's congressional testimony, the Cohen congressional testimony, and--you guessed it--congressional testimony from Lighthizer on US/China trade policy. Mortgage rates are determined by the bond market, and the bond market could make a case for caring about any of these three events. Interestingly enough, almost all of the day's bond market movement arrived BEFORE any of the testimonies. Unfortunately, the movement in question was bad for rates , but the damage was fairly minimal.
