3 Common Types of Carpet Cleaning Challenges

There are different kinds of carpet cleaning challenges that you might be facing one of this days. In this article, we'll discuss 3 common carpet cleaning challenges, including:  pet stain and odor, soil retardants and baby mess.

Pet Stain and Odor

When a cat urinates on carpet or upholstery, it leaves both a stain and an odor. To fix both, clean the area as soon as possible to prevent it from soaking through to the backing and pad below and to avoid any permanent bleaching. Pet urine stains can have a permanent bleaching effect on some types of carpet, depending on how they are dyed. Disperse-dyed polyester, solution-dyed olefin, or solution-dyed nylon generally do not bleach under these conditions. Pet urine is more likely to have a bleaching effect on nylon carpets colored with acid dyes. Bleaching may not actually become apparent until the carpet is cleaned, at which point the carpet dyes previously released by the pet urine are removed. Soil Retardants

Most carpets are now factory-treated with a coating that helps the carpet fibers shed water and spills. The key is cleaning up the spills quickly. Once a carpet is five years old or so, you may need to have it retreated, at least in the high traffic areas.

The easiest way to check whether carpet retreatment is necessary is to place a few drops of water on the carpet in the questionable areas and see whether the drops bead up or are absorbed quickly into the fibers. If they are absorbed, it's time to retreat the carpet. Source: HomeAdvisor

Mortgage Rates Unchanged to Begin Busy Week

Mortgage rate drama has been on an unapologetic, no-holds-barred, "couldn't-care-less" sort of vacation for the past 2-3 weeks . There have only been microscopic changes from day to day, and they've canceled each other out over that time frame to boot! In other words, there has been no net change in rates since the middle of November. The past 3 business days (Wed, Fri, and today), have been especially calm. Not every lender kept the same hours during that time, and not every lender held perfectly steady, but there certainly wasn't enough movement to affect the most prevalently-quoted conventional 30yr fixed quote of 4% on top tier scenarios. The recent calm runs the risk of building a false sense of security . There are several important events on the horizon that could get things moving again...(read more)

Today was a largely uneventful return from the extended weekend with bond markets doing very little to react to news or economic reports. Chicago PMI is hit and miss when it comes to moving markets, but certainly no stranger to the spotlight. At 48.7 versus a median forecast of 54.0, today's Chicago PMI was arguably weak enough that we should have seen a more noticeable response in bond markets. Instead, the morning's gains leveled-off just as the data was released. The rest of the day was spent drifting sideways to slightly stronger, resulting in a smattering of small, positive reprices. What can we glean from the absence of response to the Chicago PMI data? Nothing earth-shattering, but perhaps this helps us put the rest of the week in perspective.
