Gotta hand it to Vancouver. The city has gained a reputation as a place for foreign buyers - primarily Chinese - to buy housing and park their money...even if they don't intend on living there. Now foreign buyers will face an additional 15% property transfer tax beginning this week. The Wall Street Journal reports that, "The benchmark price for a detached Vancouver home increased 39% to nearly $1.2 million in June from a year earlier." What kind of lesson does that teach first-time home buyers? What do they know that we don't?
