Mindy Kaling’s Closet Looks Nicer Than Any Apartment I’ve Ever Been In

Anyone who has seen "Sex and the City"has coveted Carrie Bradshaw's overflowing closet, but at least it was fake—no one could have such a perfect room in real life! Except, apparently, Mindy Kaling.

Before and After: This Tiny Bathroom Looks Brand New After Only $1,000

Ok, so maybe this isn't the world's tiniest bathroom, but it's close. When Lara of The Unprofessional set out to renovate her tiny attic bathroom, her issues with the space weren't just cosmetic. Thanks to its small size, the bathroom had lots of unusual quirks: the vanity door wouldn't open all the way, the bathroom door swung out and blocked the hallway, and the toilet was so close to the door that doing your business was a bit uncomfortable. Time for a few creative solutions.

The Cheapest Way to Build Your Coffee Table Book Collection

I've always been a bit of a book hoarder, but recently, my stack of coffee table books alone has begun to rival my collection of novels, biographies, and memoirs. And while the internet often makes it seem like you can't purchase a gorgeous design manual or two without spending the equivalent of a week's worth of groceries, that certainly isn't the case. I'm letting you in on my little money-saving trick: shopping for coffee table books used off of Amazon.

First things first: coffee table books are everywhere. The sheer number of titles available can be somewhat overwhelming—just when I think I've heard of every must-have design book, a new one is released and instantly becomes a hit. If you're a fellow interiors enthusiast and are looking to build a collection from scratch, I recommend starting out with these cult favorites: "Elements of Style: Designing a Home & a Life," "Styled: Secrets for Arranging Rooms, from Tabletops to Bookshelves," and, of course, "Apartment Therapy Complete and Happy Home."

MBS Day Ahead: Here Comes the Fed (And a Satirical Prediction About What They'll Say)

Posted To: MBS Commentary

Today's key even is the 2pm ET Fed Announcement. There will be no hike and no adjustment to existing policies. That said, given a noticeably dovish shift in Fed speeches since the December meeting, more than a few investors are hoping to see some hint about a softening of those policies in the text of the announcement. I'm not sure how likely that is. In fact, it's UNLIKELY that we'll see any suggestion about changing the balance sheet normalization plans in the text of the announcement. The more likely venue for any balance sheet hints will be the press conference 30 minutes after the announcement (press conferences now happen after every meeting as opposed to every other meeting). None of this is to say that the announcement itself won't be changed. Indeed, that's...(read more)

“DHY” is My Secret for Affordable Custom Framing

"Anything can be art!," they say. "Frame a beautiful paper menu or a favorite scarf for budget-friendly artwork."

It's not bad advice (I may or may not have written about this exact topic a couple weeks ago), but what the proverbial "they" forget to mention is how mind-bogglingly expensive custom framing can be when you're trying to dress up your walls on the cheap. Your quirky little found object isn't likely to fit inside the standard-sized frames you pick up at Target.

Here's something for senior management to do some time. Casually ask someone under the age of 30, who is not in the business, like your server at The Olive Garden, how or where they would obtain a home loan. It is very telling, especially if you're thinking about where to spend marketing dollars. As the Upper Midwest suffers through a heat wave [sarcasm font], millions of marketing dollars, and MI travel & entertainment dollars, will be spent in Atlanta this week. Bring rubbers (for your shoes) as it could be rainy – but 60 degrees F. Lender Products and Services Floify continues to lead the fight against margin compression!
